Despite numerous studies describing predominantly its clinical course, many aspects of central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) remain unclear. Hypotheses on the pathogenesis of CSCR have ranged from a basic alteration in the blood stream to an involvement of the blood vessel wall. We reviewed the different therapeutic approaches, including laser induced chorioretinal anastomosis (LICRA), vitrectomy (PPV) and intravitreal treatment (IVT). The goal of this work is to present our philosophy for CRVO. This CRVO model enables us to understand how the therapeutic approach should be individualized for each patient, and that sometimes a combined strategy of treatment is required.
