Flow control is especially crucial during vitrectomy for retinal detachment because of the risk of iatrogenic retinal tears, due to traction at distance or to direct retinal browsing. Balance between risk and efficiency must be continuously monitored.
Endoscopy assisted vitrectomy allows high magnification observation of the vitreous/retinal motion and cutter action. Depending on the vitreous condition and the vitrectomy machine parameters, various intraoperative situations will be discussed and shown on videos.
