Advantages:

This allows removal of large peripheral retinal capillary hemangioma (RCH) and treatment of the detached retina.

Methods:

Large peripheral RCH with retinal detachment was treated with vitreoretinal surgery. The techniques included vitrectomy, perfluorocarbon liquid injection, diathermized angiotomy of the feed vessel and drainage vessel, RCH resection with the cutter followed by endolaser on the edge of retinotomy and silicone oil tamponade.

Effectiveness:

Three eyes with large RCH and retinal detachment were treated successfully with the methods and achieved varied visual improvement. Diathermized angiotomy is a safe and effective technique to close the tumor vessels, as well as the key to excise the tumor.
