Advantages:

Lamellar macular holes may be operated on with restoration of vision and foveal anatomy. Our study presents the results in 30 cases. Also a new hypothesis of lamellar hole formation supported by histological analysis will be presented. Pars plana vitrectomy, internal limiting membrane peeling and air tamponade are performed and no positioning is required. Patients are studied with complete ophthalmic examination and OCT: preoperatively, and 1 week and 1, 3, 6, and 12 months postoperatively. During operation, specimens of posterior vitreous cortex and internal limiting membrane are harvested and fixated for histological analysis.

Effectiveness/Safety:

This technique is effective and safe and allows good anatomical and functional outcome.
