Paolo Corazza_SCIENTIFIC POSTER 2015

Purpose:

To evaluate the subretinal fluid (SRF) blebs after successful scleral buckling for retinal detachment (RD) and to investigate its presence after 4-5 years and anatomical and functional features.

Design:

Retrospective case series.

Methods:

15 patients were included in the study. All patients underwent careful ophthalmological examination . Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) , Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and microperimetric assessment were performed.

Results:

In all of our cases we had not found residual SRF. SRFs were verified by spectral domain OCT in all the cases during the postoperative follow up. BCVA examination and microperimetry revealed a complete recovery of the visual acuity and a restoration of sensibility of the macular field.

Conclusions:

Although at the best of our knowledge the pathogenesis is still unknown, we observed that the presence of SRF after scleral buckling for retinal detachment is self limiting and self resolving without any anatomical and functional significant damage.
