SYNOPSIS

Purpose:

To present new techniques for silicone oil removal (SOR).

Methods:

Three different techniques are proposed according to three different surgical objectives:

1: SOR as a single procedure.

2: SOR and phacoemulsifi-cation (PE) with intraocular lens implantation (IOL).

3: SOR followed by combined PE with IOL and pars plana vitrectomy.

Conclusion:

These new techniques have a better fluidics control and allow a quicker and safer procedure for each specific situation.
