Advantages:

To manage serous retinal detachment (SRD) associated with choroidal osteoma and choroidal hemangioma with transpupillary thermotherapy (TTT).

Methods:

Two patients (choroidal ostema 1, choroidal hemangioma 1) presented with serous macular detachment. TTT was applied in one session using 810 nm diode lasers to the leaking area observed on fluorescein angiography for the patient with choroidal osteoma and over the choroidal hemangioma surface for the second patient.

Effectiveness / Safety:

Complete resolution of SRD with improvement of visual acuity was observed within 2 weeks for the first patient and 3 months for the second patient.

Take home message:

TTT can be considered as the first line treatment for patients with choroidal osteoma or hemangioma complicated by SRD.
