To evaluate the management of retinal detachment and subluxation of the lens in a child with Marfan Syndrome.

Marfanʼs syndrome is an autosomic dominant genetic disorder of the elastic fibers of connective tissue. That syndrome affects many body systems (skeletal, ocular, cardiovascular, cutaneous, pulmonary, abdominal, neurological). We report a case of a child 12 years old with Marfanʼs syndrome, with a retinal detachment and subluxation of the lens. Scleral buckling, vitrectomy and pars plana lensectomy were perfomed. Triamcinolone (subtenon) was injected to prevent proliferative vitreoretinopathy.

Effectiveness / Safety:

We recommend the pars plana lensectomy instead of phacoemulsification to decrease the risk of proliferative vitreoretinopathy.
