I use the endodiathermy probe as one of two instruments for bimanual dissection of diabetic fibrovascular proliferations. It replaces either the forceps or the vitreous cutting probe and scissors.

Forceps Replacement: I identify the surgical planes, by inserting the endodiathermy probe tip underneath the membranes; this allows me to dissect with the vitreous cutting probe under good visulaization.

Probe/scissors Replacement: In the diathermy disection technique (DD technique), I use the diathermy as the main tool for dissection. Diathermy applications to the vascular connections help safe seperation of fibrovascular tissues, with the avoidance of excessive bleeding ans should bleeding still occur, it provides a prompt hemostasis.
