Demonstrate the possibility of reopening a retinal artery after iatrogenic closure.

Immediate and prolonged massage of the eye, I accompanied by intravenous therapy with Sulodexide and topical timolol maleate 0.5%, may help the reopening of a retinal artery accidentally closed after the coagulation of a macro aneurism whose exudation was impairing macular function.

Effectiveness / Safety:

Several angiograms and photos show the closure of the artery, it’s reopening after few hours and the gradual improvement of the macular anatomy and visual field after several days.

Take home message:

Massage the eye as soon as you can: it worked in this case.
