To show the effectiveness of trans-zonular reverse flow (Re-flow) technique in vitreoretinal surgery with 25-gauge system.


24 cases are treated with 25-gauge systems: 12 cases with reflow technique compared with 12 cases with conventional pars plana approach. In the reflow technique, a 25-gauge infusion into the anterior chamber, and only one port in pars plana with slit lamp illumination are used.

Effectiveness / Safety:

No differences are observed in the two groups in terms of endothelial damage and cataract progression. The reflow technique with a 25-gauge approach and slit lamp, allows the surgeon to reduce to only single access in pars plana with less risk of vitreous incarceration, secondary retinal detachment, and endophthalmitis.
