To analyze the microbiological characteristics, anatomical and visual outcomes of eyes with post-traumatic endophthalmitis


Medical records were reviewed of 47 patients with post-traumatic endophthalmitis at a single institution between 2001 and 2011. Pars plana vitrectomy was performed in 34 (72,3%) cases as a first treatment. All eyes were treated intravitreal antibiotic injections and all intraocular foreign bodies (IOFB) were removed

Effectiveness / Safety:

The mean follow-up period was 20,7 months. The mean age was 25 (2 to 78) years whereas. 23 of them 48,9 %) were in paediatric age.
