Second Treatment

The comparison of BCVA after the first treatment and after the second treatment requires the same information being present at the same timing for the patients. If the BCVA at the last visit after each treatment is considered, then information is available for 21 patients.BCVA after first treatment: mean 0.40, standard error 0.087.BCVA after second treatment: mean 0.36, standard error 0.776.The nonparametric Wilcoxon test suggests that there is no significant improvement after second treatment, given a p-value equal to 0.07.

A special slide is dedicated to the series of 16 cases sent from Veronica Aslanova, which were very homogeneous as far as case selection, treatment and resultsall young with mean age of 23 (younger that the mean age of the population of the whole study), phakic, with sub retinal fluid involving the macula + intraretinal fluid and without outer lamellar hole, and without pvd.all had a preoperative bcva between 20/500 and 20/125.They all received only an injection of 0,4cc of C3F8 and were asked to position for 15 days. All of them were granted a successful reabsorption of the fluid with visual gain. This case series was NOT included in the statistical analysis because there was no variability in the results and the 100% success of 16 cases could influence significantly the whole series. However we think is it important to mention and to think about this option of treatment.
