Introduction:

Idiopathic ciliochoroidal effusion is a specific pathological entity with abnormal thickened sclera resulting in significant exudative retinal detachment.

Methods:

4 cases of idiopathic ciliochoroidal effusion presented with total exudative retinal detachment. Modified vortex vein decompression was performed.

Effectiveness / Safety:

Flattening of the retina was achieved in all cases. There were no ocular complications.

Take home message:

Modified vortex vein decompression can result in successful flattening of the retina in exudative retinal detachment associated with idiopathic ciliochoroidal effusion.
