Advantages: Eyes with thin sclera that have undergone repeated surgical procedures may present areas of scleral thinning or even choroidal exposure and bulging.

Areas of choroidal exposure present also with choroidal bulging. A patch of Tenon may be stretched and sutured over the area of choroidal exposure in order to reduce the choroidal bulging. Afterwards a patch of scleral tissue may be tailored cut and sutured to the scleral wall in order to protect areas of scleral thinning and to restore the eyewall in areas of choroidal exposure.

The use of a Tenon’s capsule to reduce the uveal bulging and the apposition of a scleral patch allows restoration of the integrity of the eyewall and permit further surgery if needed. This technique is effective and safe.
