Management of Needling Endophthalmitis in Children Visual Outcome and Prognosis


ABSTRACT

Material & Methods:

Twenty five cases of needling endophthalmitis, patient ages (2-6 years) were analysed to determine visual outcome after management. Pars plana vitreoctomy and lensectomy were performed in all cases.

Results:

Visual acuity of 20-200 or better in 8 cases, 7 cases had vision cf 2m or less, 10 cases developed phthisis bulbi.

Conclusion:

Needling endophthalmitis is very severe endophthalmitis with bad prognosis. Early vitrectomy with intravitreal antibiotics can save the eye and vision.
