ILM-peeling is a PVR-prophylactic procedure in retinal detachment surgery. High myopia is a main risk factor for retinal detachment. ILM-peeling in high myopic eyes is a challenge even for experienced surgeons. This is due to especially strong connections between vitreous, epiretinal membrane and retinal surface. The prolonged time of ILM-peeling in high myopic eyes could increase the phototoxicity. This can result in potentially worse postoperative visual function despite good anatomical result. Lutein is a potential light-protective substance. Lutein enriched dye, Doubledyne R could be considered as a adjunct in retinal detachment surgery in high myopic eyes.
