ABSTRACT

This is a case series of 15 eyes with ocular Behcet presenting with full thickness macular holes. These represented 7.8% of the Behcet patient population at the uveitis clinic at Cairo University. Three eyes presented with total retinal detachments due to the macular hole. All 15 eyes had active disease and were under treatment. All eyes were operated by 23G parsplana vitrectomy, ILM peel and C3F8 gas injection except the three eyes presenting with retinal detachment where silicone oil was used as a tamponade. During surgery a thick epiretinal membrane and thick ILM was noted in all eyes. The closure rate was 100% however, the visual improvement was limited due to the macular ischemia due to the disease. In conclusion, full thickness macular is not an un common complication of Ocular Behcet. These cases may be complicated by retinal detachment.
