Post vitrectomy macular complications are very serious. The prognosis is very poor and in some cases it might be irreversible. Few publications refer to this problem.


Cases with secondary macular pathology such as: epiretinal macular membranes, cystoid macular edema, persistence of the retinal macular detachment, macular hole, subfoveal perfluorocarbon liquid, preretinal deposit of heavy silicone oil, macular phototoxicity and macular folds where evaluated through our own archive.

Effectiveness / Safety:

The prevention of the above pathologies as well as the treatment is presented is this study.

Take home message:

Most of the post vitrectomy macular pathology can be prevented or be treated.
