Advantages:

To define the nonresponders of CNV to anti-VEGF treatment clearly so that unnecessary treatments with a costly agent can be prevented.

Methods:

A mini questionnaire with 7 items was send to the retina specialist in Turkey via e-mail. The questions were related with the definition of non-responders to intravitreal anti-VEGF treatment of CNV, the percentage, common features and management of them. The responses were analyzed and the results were presented.

Effectiveness / Safety:

All of the retina people agreed that there are non-responders to intravitreal anti-VEGF treatment in eyes with CNV. However there was no agreement for the definition of a nonresponder, common features and management of these eyes. Persistence of fluid in OCT was the most widely used definition of a non-responder and switching to other anti-VEGF and combination treatments were the most commonly preferred management options for these cases.

Take home message:

The results of the mini questionnaire showed us that the issue of non-responders to intravitreal anti-VEGF treatment in eyes with CNV is a virgin subject to be investigated further.
