Silicone oil removal is a necessary step after pars plana vitrectomy with silicone oil endotamponade. The advantages of transconjunctival surgery have already been described including fast postoperative rehabilitation, less discomfort, and the benefits of avoiding conjunctival dissection, diathermy and probably suturation. The purpose of this presentation is to demonstrate an easy and effective technique to remove silicone oil actively through pars plana transconjunctivally. In this video an easy updated new technique is described to prepare for the active removal of silicone oil through pars plana transconjunctivally. The equipment is simply performed using the routine equipment available in every operating room setting for pars plana vitrectomy. Silicone oil is actively aspirated through the 23- or 25-gauge trocar. The technique is found to be safe and effective.
