A New Observation/Illumination System For Vitreoretinal Surgery – Own Experience

Background:

The purpose of this paper is to present a new observation/illumination system for vitreoretinal surgery.

Methods:

Over 400 eyes were treated with the use of optical fiberfree intravitreal surgery system (OFFISS), a device consisting of a 40-D aspheric field lens underslinging the microscope. An inverting device is inbuilt in this system.

Result:

The new device could be successfully used and enabled bimanual surgery.

Conclusion:

The system is especially useful in removing pr eretinal membranes in diabetic patients, PVR patients and for bimanual peripheral vitrectomy with surgeons own indentation.
