Advantages:

Performing a complete vitrectomy even in 23 G sutureless transconjunctival approach allow a very low rate of postoperative retinal detachment. At the same time the rate of sclerotomy closure is high and the occurrence of postoperative hypotony is rare. In this paper we report the rate of complications and the anatomic outcome in 600 cases.

Methods:

Transconjuctival insertion of the 23G trocars, complete pars plana vitrectomy, adeguate posterior segment manoeuvres with different kind of tamponade.

Effectiveness/Safety:

This technique is effective and safe and allows reducing the incidence of postoperative retinal detachment.
